A Brief History of the
Missouri Heights-Mountain Meadow Irrigation Company
The Missouri Heights-Mountain Meadow Irrigation Company came into being with the merger of two irrigation companies in 1999: the Missouri Heights Irrigation Company, owner of the Spring Park Reservoir and its water right, and the Mountain Meadow Ditch and Irrigation Company, owner of the Mountain Meadow ditch and its water right. The Mountain Meadow water right date back to June 3, 1905 and allows diversions of 13 c.f.s. (cubic feet per second) out of Cattle Creek. This is a direct flow right and is not allowed to be stored for later use. The Spring Park Reservoir water right allows the diversion and storage of up to 2,823 acre-feet of water for irrigation. This right was adjudicated September 7, 1918, the 54th to be filed on Cattle Creek. These two water rights were established after most of the other water rights were already established on Cattle Creek, the earliest of which date back to the early 1880’s. The first rights, or “Senior” rights, have first priority.
